Item Description

Very glassy, gemmy colorless apophyllite crystals cover the thin matrix plate on this old-time, rich and uncommon specimen from the historic French Creek Iron mines, that operated from 1717 until 1928! The stacked crystal clusters add pizzazz and 3-dimensionality to the piece. Hard to see, but tiny brassy pyrite microcrystals are festooned on and in the apophyllite crystals. Ex Kay Robertson # 6186 and acquired from the Lidstrom's at the Pleasonton Federation Shown in 1970. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Kay passed away in 2020. See the 1994 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 25, No. 2. Comes with an OLD faded Ward's label. RARE today.
