Item Description

Old-time, rich and uncommon apophyllite from the historic French Creek Iron mines, that operated from 1717 until 1928! Very glassy, gemmy colorless crystals cover the thin matrix plate. The stacked crystal clusters add pizzazz and 3-dimensionality to the piece. Hard to see, but tiny brassy pyrite microcrystals are festooned on and in the apophyllite crystals. Ex Kay Robertson # 6186 and acquired from the Lidstrom's at the Pleasonton Federation Shown in 1970. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Comes with an OLD faded Ward's label. RARE today.
