Item Description

The O & G Quarry in Woodbury, Connecticut is a well-known trap rock quarry that has produced some attractive zeolites and associated minerals. The Apophyllites from this locality are not commonly seen on the market, and this particular piece is certainly the most interesting one we've seen or had to offer. This cabinet display specimen features a coverage of sharp, very lustrous, well-formed, white / colorless prismatic tetragonal crystals of Apophyllite with the largest measuring 2.2 cm across sitting on basalt matrix. My favorite aspect of the piece is the main Apophyllite crystal which has a notably rare skeletal / "hoppered" termination with additional Apophyllites growing inside! This particular habit is rare for Apophyllite, and I've certainly never seen a crystal like this from O & G or just about any other trap rock locality I can think of. If you collect Connecticut minerals, trap rock minerals or East Coast minerals, don't miss out on this unique and attractive specimen from this classic locality. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
