Item Description

An attractive OLD-TIME zeolite (and zeolite adjacent) association specimen from this esoteric locality which we actually sold to George over 15 years ago. It looks just as good today as it did when we initially sold it, and I can't remember seeing another like it since. This full cabinet sized specimen hosts an attractive soft greenish-white group of blocky Apophyllite crystals (the specific species is not known) measuring 1.7 cm, which are associated with semi-radial "sprays" of white Epistilbite along with a 1.0 cm pseudo-rhombic crystal of Chabazite on basalt matrix. George's label states that the Chabazite is broken, and I looked at it closely, and can confirm it's contacted on the front face. The most valuable aspect of the piece to me lies in the fact that it originally belonged to Dr. Friedrich Krantz of Bonn, Germany, a prominent dealer in his day. This piece remains as the ONLY specimen we've ever had for sale from this remote locality in far southwestern Japan.
Ex George Loud Collection No. 8739; 435 JA.2. George (born August 16, 1942) is a well-known mineral collector from Washington, DC and South Carolina respectively, and was a patent lawyer by trade for over 50 years. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the U.S., comprising worldwide specimens, and in later years he sold the worldwide specimens to focus on minerals of the United States, specifically locality suites with an emphasis on amazing representation of species while still maintaining fine quality. The specimens remarkably range from micros to all the way up to large cabinets in size. We recently acquired most of his impressive 9000+ piece collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality specimens for their collections.
