Apophyllite Group

Item Description

An attractive specimen of the Apophyllite Group, which was labeled as coming from the city of Baotou (the largest city by urban population in Inner Mongolia, China), but likely is from either the Huanggang Deposit or the possibly the Chaobuleng Deposit in Inner Mongolia. Many sharp, well-formed, blocky colorless crystals measuring up to 1.2 cm and be seen covering the underlying matrix. Some of the crystals transition from very gemmy at the base to more of a translucent white hue on the terminations, with a bit of white "cap" on top. No major damage I can find, and Apophyllite specimens are RARE from any locality in Inner Mongolia, so don't miss out if you're a fan of Chinese minerals, rare locality specimens or good examples of Apophyllite.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#854 C), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
