Item Description
Glossy and pearly, these tabular Apophyllites are among the finest I have seen from Talisker Bay of Talisker Whiskey fame. Up to 1.5 cm on edge, the Apophyllites are translucent with hints of gemminess throughout. They rest on a complex Zeolite (?) matrix, all on Basalt. This intermediate layer is quite unusual, with white clusters of fine, tabular crystals (exhibiting bright white fluorescence, no less!) sitting among fine needles of the same mineral. Basically, it's three generations with generations 1 & 3 being fluorescent. Collected in 2014 by Mike Wood, the aesthetics and uniqueness really help this small cabinet specimen stand apart. Recently deaccessed from the Tim Sherburn collection.
