Super provenance on this RARE, outstanding, rich old-time small cabinet combination from historic Copper Country. RARE, gem-like, sharp, tabular apophyllite crystals with nifty beveled edges cover the front of the sculptural crust. The back hosts a fine SURPRISE and common accessory - numerous classic copper-included calcite crystals. The striking gemmy, richly included, doubly terminated calcite on the edge is 2.0 cm. Previously in the collection of George Kunz (1856-1932), gem expert and Vice President at Tiffany & Company and prolific mineralogy and gemstone author. He sold the piece, according to the previous dealer label, to the New York State Museum in 1886. The numbers match.
