Item Description
Phosphorite is lithified phosphate-rich sediments, which includes coprolites, the fossil excrement of fishes, reptiles, and mammals. Coprolites are composed largely of calcium phosphate. This is a VERY RARE and excellent example from a most obscure Ukraine locality. It is the very symmetrical hemisphere of a sawed and polished spherical nodule. The sawed face shows the radial growth of the phosphate blades. Rounded nodules, such as this, are rare from any worldwide locality. RARE old-time material from the Kay Robertson Collection # 8064. Ex Herman Kraft Collection with two labels, one with a 1936 date. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
