Item Description

Apatite is one of those gems that is found in almost every shade you can think of. The fact that it occurs in multiple rock types around the world not only make it's easy to find, but it's also quite diverse, due to the fact that the various environments in which it forms can create all kinds of different hues. This particular gem comes from the Mpwapwa District in Tanzania and has a gorgeous deep saturated blue-green hue. The stone has an "Octagonal Cushion" cut, and while it's not completely eye-clean, under strong lighting it glows with an intense hue that is rarely seen in any other gem (perhaps I can best compare it to a rich blue-green Tourmaline). Beautiful color and good size, and it would certainly make a great addition to any gem collection, or you could pair it up with a crystal from this locality for a lovely "rough and cut" set.
