Item Description

Apatite specimens are EXTREMELY RARE from this well-known island, that hosts a large salt diapir. This sharp textbook hexagonal glassy and translucent crystal has yellow-green color and a striking offset pyramidal termination. Iron oxide coatings give the crystal a colorful and interesting reddish tint. Pristine. A couple contacts are noted on the sides of the termination, but there is no damage, per se. It looks like a classic Cerro de Mercado, Mexico apatite, but it's not. Perhaps unique material from this locale from the Kay Robertson Collection # 5617 and acquired in the late 1960s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
