Apatite on Magnetite (Robertson Coll.)

Item Description

A 3.3 cm, sharply terminated, hexagonal apatite crystal is nicely set in matrix on this showy and aesthetic combination from this well-known Azerbaijan skarn deposit mine. The sharp crystal has lustrous porcelaneous gray sides and the pinacoidal termination. Interestingly, the termination faces show translucent green apatite. The matrix is magnetite with quartz points and chlorite. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 11954 and acquired in the 1990s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A excellent combination apatite from the locale.
