Item Description

Excellent example of the well-known gem Apatites on Calcite from the Wilberforce area in Ontario - although GEMMY crystals are 1 in 1000. The gemmy, lustrous, and doubly-terminated Apatite is 3.8 cm, and it sits perfectly on the Calcite matrix. It is so gemmy and lustrous that the internal reflections make it glow when struck by light. To help preserve this very fine piece, it was reinforced during preparation, which was very wise and is necessary for these in this matrix. Jack purchased tis from Rod & Helen Tyson, who selfcollected them. Adding to mineral and visual interest, the Calcite has excellent red fluorescence. Choice quality and aesthetics for this exemplary Canadian piece. There are numerous references to Jack and his collection in print, but perhaps a good tour of the collection and its history will help give perspective on just how good, and important, this collection is: https://www.irocks.com/the-jack-halpern-collection
