Item Description
This is one of the few Apatites that we've had to offer from Pea Ridge. This former iron-producing locality has been closed since 2001, and you almost never see any specimens on the market these days. It's a fairly good sized crystal for the locality, well-crystallized and complete all around. I'm told that the brownish color may in fact be from the inclusions of Hematite or another iron oxide. If you're an Apatite collector, or a collector of unusual U.S. minerals, don't miss out on this one. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
