Item Description

Epidote and apatite combination specimens from Knappenwand are a worldwide classic. A well-placed, 6 mm, gem, tabular, essentially colorless apatite crystal with chlorite inclusions is the focal point of this excellent large, old-time specimen. The chlorite schist matrix is studded with a multitude of gemmy to opaque, olive-green, epidote crystals to 1.0 cm and scattered smaller apatites. There are also green actinolite (variety byssolite) hairs scattered about in clusters. Ex Herb Obodda dealer stock. Herb valued this piece at $400, five or more years ago. The old number label on the back dates this piece to the 1800s to early 1900s.
