Apatite (cut by Brett Kosnar)

Item Description

Green Apatite from Brazil is becoming more and more difficult to find as the best deposit for the material dried up years ago according to the locals. The material is now only being found in small sporadic deposits. I don't see many stones over 5 carats from this area these days, and this is one of the better gems I've seen for color and size. This gem was cut by Brett Kosnar in March of 2009, and the cut is a "Cushion Brilliant". I would describe the color as a rich lime green with a slight yellow overtone. The clarity is only very slightly included, and considering that the majority of these stones rarely approach 3 carats in weight (even with inclusions), this is a rather significant stone for this area.
