Item Description
A great piece for all you mining memorabilia fans out there. This is a rare antique head of a mining hammer that dates back to the 16th-17th century. This piece was collected with a metal detector by a friend of ours in the Czech Republic, who visits old mine sites looking for this kind of material, and this one comes from arguably the most well-known district in the entire country! Pribram is an ancient mining district, dating back to the times of the Celts according to the archaeological finds. It was one of the major silver producers in Europe for a few centuries. You never see these antique hammer heads on the market, and we were lucky to get this one, as our friend said that less and less of them are found each year. Considering it's several hundred years old, it's in remarkably good condition as the face, point and cheek are all intact and you can see right through the opening where the handle once existed. If you're a fan of old time mining antiques, this is a great piece to add to your collection as it predates than virtually any piece of underground mining memorabilia for anywhere in the Western Hemisphere. The piece weighs 70.48 grams.
