Item Description
There are few organic materials that are often used in the gem world, such as coral, amber and ivory. This stone is a beautiful antique piece of ivory with a beautiful scrimshaw flower painting on the front face. Traditionally scrimshaws are made from bones and teeth of sperm whales, the baleen of other whales, and the tusks of walruses. It's impossible to say specifically what was used to make this stone unfortunately. The detail in the painting is really beautiful, especially the tiny thin brush lines and elegant paint job.
