Item Description
This colorful blue polished end slab is hauyne var. lazurite and not scapolite variety glaucolite. Glaucolite was named in 1843 and was found to be identical with sodalite in 1849, hence an antique synonym (MINDAT). It is not scapolite. Updated information of the mineralogy of the locality helped with the identification. This is a rare combination, as the back of the piece has quartz pockets. From an East Coast collection. This old-timer undoubtably dates back to the Imperial Russia era, as it comes with a Hugh Ford label dating to 1947-56.
