Item Description
PLEASE NOTE: This specimen is labeled as coming from the Reeves Mine in Timmins, Ontario, Canada. Now there is no Reeves Mine in the Timmins area (it's actually in Sudbury), but Antigorite is not reported from this locality, although Chrysotile is reported. The only two mines I could find in Timmins where Antigorite has been reported is the Alexo (Kelso) Mine and Bowman Mine. If anybody out there has some information as to where this piece might specifically be from, please contact us so we can update this listing. With that said, this is a beautiful specimen of what I'm calling Antigorite now, but could be either Chrysotile or possibly Lizardite. The particular specimen has a mixture of gorgeous yellow-green and golden hues with an almost platy / semi-fibrous form on the surface. From the collection of Henry de Linde (March 21, 1923 – April 4, 2019) of Hot Spring, Arkansas. Henry was one of the most prominent figures in the history of Arkansas mining and mineral collecting. Along with being a miner, mineral collector and an amateur mineralogist, de Linde was one of the founders of the Coon Creek Association mineral club. He was the owner of several key localities in Arkansas including the Diamond Jo Quarry (on the south rim of Magnet Cove), the type locality for Delindeite, which was named in his honor in 1987.
