Anorthoclase ("Moonstone") (rare locality) (ex Henry de Linde Collection)

Item Description

An interesting locality specimen from Norway featuring dozens of phenocryst / porphyroblast crystals of "Anorthoclase" frozen in the host rock. It should be noted that Anorthoclase is no longer a species, and is defined as an intermediary alkali feldspar that exists between Sanidine and Albite. The most interesting aspect of this piece is that the crystals actually show a beautiful opalescent blue Moonstone effect when they are rotated in the light. A really cool specimen not only for the physical appearance, but the rare locality. It should be noted that this piece is labeled as only coming from Oslo, but the Huken Quarry is the only spot I could find where Anorthoclase was reported in Oslo. From the collection of Henry de Linde (March 21, 1923 – April 4, 2019) of Hot Spring, Arkansas. Henry was one of the most prominent figures in the history of Arkansas mining and mineral collecting. Along with being a miner, mineral collector and an amateur mineralogist, de Linde was one of the founders of the Coon Creek Association mineral club. He was the owner of several key localities in Arkansas including the Diamond Jo Quarry (on the south rim of Magnet Cove), the type locality for Delindeite, which was named in his honor in 1987.
