Item Description
Anorthite is the Calcium-rich end member of the Albite-Anorthite Series. Academics are always asking me for samples, for studay, and all I ever had was a few loose crystals from an old Japanese locale. THis matrix piece is a very rare find. It is extremely rare from the historic mines at Tunaberg, famed for outstanding cobaltite crystals. Sharp, lustrous, translucent to opaque, green to black, anorthite crystals to 1.4 cm are clustered on the matrix. This fine and very rare old-timer is from the Tamnau Collection. The old label has a 1839 date and the small label on the back of the piece has a 1841 date. Ex Herb Obodda dealer stock and valued by Herb at $200, five or more years ago.
