Annite (rare Mica species - fine quality) (ex Al Ordway Collection)

Item Description

Annite is a rarely seen Mica species, part of the Biotite-Phlogopite series, and named after the type locality at Rockport, Cape Ann, Massachusetts. This piece is labeled as coming from the Garfield Hills of Mineral County, Nevada, which is not a reported locality on mindat.org, but the quality of this piece certainly warrants an addition to the database. This piece is a very fine small cabinet display specimen featuring sharp, lustrous, very well-formed dark greenish-black hexagonal crystal groups of Annite measuring up to 1.1 cm long smartly sitting on host rock matrix. The main crystal groups are all in excellent condition, and the only damage appears on the smaller secondary crystals. If you collect Mica species or minerals of the western United States, do not miss out on this one, as it's from a unique locality and is top notch to boot. Please note that the bottom of this specimen has a saw mark, and sits nicely on its own without the aid of a base or clay. From the collection of Al Ordway.
