Item Description
A cool old Anhydrite labeled as coming from Tarascon, Ariege, France, and I'm assuming this refers to Tarascon-sur-Ariège, which is town 100 km south of Toulouse. With that said, I don't know specifically this means the piece came from this town or another locality nearby. The piece is a sharp, blocky, lustrous, soft lavender color prismatic crystal group, free of matrix. Despite some roughness, the piece is in good shape all around. I can't remember seeing another piece like this from France, and it would make a great addition to any European mineral collection. From the worldwide mineral collection of Albert Lewis Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974 ( https://www.mindat.org/photo-326405.html ).
