Item Description
Some of the best crystallized examples of Anglesite from any Mexican locality are the elusive pieces from the Lavaderos Mine in Sonora, Mexico. We've only had a few of these over the years to offer, and this piece is a good quality example featuring a coverage of well-formed, soft peach-tan colored, orthorhombic crystals measuring up to 2.0 cm across, sitting on minor oxidized matrix. I can't see any damage of note with the naked eye on the front/display side of the piece and it's quite showy in person. When backlit, the crystals show a pleasing warm internal hue. A nice example of these hard to find Anglesites that date back to the 1970s (specifically 1971 according to the 3x5 card that accompanies the piece).
From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
