Item Description

Very glassy adamantine lustre anglesite crystals are nicely scattered on the sculptural corroded sparkly galena "mother" matrix on this showy combination classic from the historic Monteponi Mine. The modified equant crystals, to 8 mm, are gemmy colorless to iron oxide coated, which adds much color and contrast. Mining probably started in the area in the fifth and sixth centuries B.C for argentiferous galena and later zinc ores became important. The Monteponi Mine close in 1997. See the excellent article in the 2014 Mineralogical Record, Vol. 45, No. 6. This excellent combination example has multiple display views.
