Anglesite (classic material)

A classic specimen of these hard to find Anglesites. This small cabinet specimen is filled with sharp, well-formed, rather lustrous, gemmy to translucent Anglesite crystals that range from a silvery-smoky hue to almost colorless in areas measuring up to 1.9 cm with minor associated Galena from the famous Monteponi Mine on Sardinia. These are famous specimens, and certainly among the top examples of the species from any European locality. It's also important to note that a lot of Anglesite crystals from this locality are white and opaque, so to find a piece with crystals that are gemmy in areas is a big deal. While the Monteponi Mine is best-known for its world-class Phosgenites, the Anglesites are certainly worthy of attention, and if you collect secondary ore minerals, lead minerals or you just like Anglesite as a species, this is one that would make a great addition to your collection. Very good condition all around, no major damage that I can find. The 2014 article in the Mineralogical Record details this amazing locality, and specimens like this are not common on the market. If I had this one for sale at show, I would price it in the $1,500-$2,000 range retail.
