Anglesite (classic locality)

This is a beautiful and frankly fairly hard to find Anglesite specimen from the Block 14 locality at Broken Hill. It's certainly the showiest and best quality example of this well-known lead sulfate that we've had to offer from this specific locale. Dozens of very sharp, rather lustrous, soft silvery-white colored bladed crystals measuring up to 1.0 cm that are covering nearly all sides of the underlying matrix. Minor dark grey Galena can be seen on the specimen as well. The piece is actually close to being a "floater" and there are only small areas of roughness where it was detached from the pocket wall. It also sits beautifully on its own without the aid of a base or clay. If you collect secondary ore minerals, lead minerals, or specimens from Broken Hill, this is a very good Anglesite from this specific (Block 14) locality. Valued $1,500.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#158 AU), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
