Item Description

A very hard to find display specimen of Andradite Garnet from skarn deposit at Dognecea (Dognaczka), Romania (the labels accompanying the piece have it coming from "Dognaska", Hungary). This cabinet display specimen is loaded with golden-brown colored, sharp, lustrous, well-formed dodecahedra measuring up to 7 mm which are associated with beautiful stacked groups of compressed "poker chip" habit translucent colorless Calcite crystals plus a few prismatic white Quartz crystals with a drusy surface luster. The piece is in great shape overall with very little damage. It also sits as displayed and is crystallized on all sides. If you're a Garnet collector, or a fan of old European specimens, don't miss out on this excellent example that dates back 100+ years. Priced in the inventory at $900. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1433). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
