Item Description
Sharp scintillating jet-black melanite garnets are attractively festooned on the vuggy front of the sculptural serpentine matrix on this rich and excellent large specimen from the famous and historic New Idria District of California. Melanite is the black Titanium-bearing variety of andradite garnet. The dodecahedrons reach 7 mm on this fine and classic large piece. This District is famed for world class benitoite, neptunite, topazolite (topaz like) andradite garnets and melanite andradite garnets. Older material from the Lee Burnett Collection with the cloth label on the back. This is a very rich and RARE large old specimen for California!
