Item Description
Splendent jet-black melanite garnets are attractively festooned on the front of this rich and excellent large specimen from the famous New Idria District of historic California! Melanite is the black Ti-bearing variety of andradite garnet. The sharp dodecahedrons reach 5 mm on this fine and classic large piece. This District is famed for world class benitoite, neptunite, topazolite (topaz like) andradite garnets and melanite andradite garnets. This is a very rich specimen for California!
