Andradite (var Melanite)

An attractive and now fairly hard to find "Melanite" Garnet from Mali. This area produced several really impressive specimens of this iron and titanium bearing vareity of Andradite a few years ago, and now next to nothing seems to be available. This attractive small cabinet piece is in great condition overall featuring many razor sharp, rather lustrous, well-formed dodecahedra of a deep chocolate brown-black color and measuring up to 3.3 cm across. Great quality and size for the material, and not just from Mali. If you're a Garnet collector, and you don't have one of these in your collection, be sure to pick this one up as it's much better than the vast majority of the specimens I've seen from Diakon.
