Andradite var. Demantoid Garnet

Item Description

This very attractive triangular miniature is loaded with vivid green gemmy andradite variety demantoid garnets with mostly satin luster faces, to 9 mm. The dense cluster of crystals cascading down one edge dramatically accentuates the piece. The crystals are trapezohedrons beveled by dodecahedral faces. The contrasting matrix is siliceous limestone. These caused a striking stir at the major shows in 2009 and 2010 and are some of the world's finest examples of green garnets. See the 2010 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 41, No. 3.
