Item Description

A gorgeous, showy, classic display specimen of these famous Demantoids from the Italian Alps. These wonderful specimens are some of the most well-known pieces of Demantoid from any locality for their quality, color and richness. Dozens of lustrous, sharp, light green dodecahedra (with slight trapezohedral modifications on the edges) of Demantoid completely cover the underlying matrix, with a small amount of white of Chrysotile in spots.. The piece is in great shape with no major damage I can find with the naked eye. The largest crystal measures about 4 mm across. For the sheer number of crystals, and the overall quality, this is certainly a worthwhile piece of this classic Alpine material. Valued $1,200.
From the collection of Vasco Trancoso, a medical doctor and prominent mineral collector from near Lisbon, Portugal (https://www.mindat.org/user-11954.html). He assembled his mineral collection over the course of 60 years, and built a fine worldwide display collection that we recently purchased. This piece is pictured on mindat.org at https://www.mindat.org/photo-184277.html
