Item Description

These fantastic Andradite Garnet specimens were found in Madagascar in 2010. Unfortunately the locality was short-lived, but this world-class discovery certainly bolstered the world's supply of Andradite specimens (both in the forms of the varieties Demantoid and Topazolite). As mentioned, the Antetezambato Mine only produced specimens for a short time due to its geography, which unfortunately flooded and according to our source that no more specimens will be ever collected, which is a shame because these are some of the best examples of Andradite from any modern locality. It's important to note that it's rare to find good gemmy crystals of Andradite on matrix like this. This miniature sized piece is a showy and fine quality example featuring many very sharp, highly lustrous, good sized, crystals of both golden-brown Topazolite and green Demantoid. The crystals actually show a color change, as when view the specimen under warm temperature lighting, the crystals will appear more golden, but under cool temperate lighting, they are much more green. The crystals primarily show trapezohedral faces, but I can see some tiny modifying faces in spots. The crystals are fairly gemmy when backlit, and the largest crystal measures 1.1 cm across. A very good quality and showy piece with highly attractive crystals. Very little damage, and rather eye-catching. Valued $1,800.
