Item Description

Specimen of a classic Mexican find, but unusual in that we have a perfectly sized thumbnail specimen with a single crystal on matrix: most are jumbly. This has a single 1.8 x1.2 x 1.8 translucent to transparent dark yellow green trapezohedral Andradite on an aggregate of muscovite. This is the famous locality for the gemmy Veracruz amethysts, and from which garnet is very very rare! When we have seen them in the past, the garnets are tiny but this is a large, textbook, gorgeous crystal - special for locality. From a small lot which Cal Graeber obtained and cleaned up, prior to 2020, and then part of the garnet suite of the Schauss collection.
