Item Description
Despite the fact that the Nangarhar province is famous for its pegmatite minerals (Spodumene, Tourmaline, etc.), the specimens from Marki Khel are actually from a metamorphic skarn deposit. Most people actually label these as coming from Pakistan because Epidote is so well-known from various Pakistani localities. This miniature specimen features a handful of fine quality, very sharp, well-formed, lustrous, deep reddish-brown colored dodecahedral crystals of Andradite Garnet associated with sharp, lustrous, green, gemmy, well-formed prisamtic crystals of Epidote on matrix. The largest Andradite meaures 5 mm and the largest Epidote measures 8 mm. Most crystals are on the display side are damage free. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#12150). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
