Item Description
Beautiful, sharp, lustrous, brilliant green colored dodecahedra of Andradite Garnet (Demantoid) measuring up to 3 mm on matrix from the "Maddox Mine" in San Benito County, California. While Demantoid is reported from several counties in San Benito County, the name Maddox Mine doesn't show up. Perhaps the locality is in reference to Phil Maddox who, according to a GIA article made a discovery of the material in 1978. Good quality all around, and a great piece to add to a Garnet suite or a collection of California minerals. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#8595). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
