Andradite Garnet on Calcite ex Obodda

Matrix andradite garnets of this large size and unusual form are very uncommon from this less well-known locale. The interesting form is a skewed, modified trapezohedron and it is expertly perched on the starkly contrasting bone-white calcite matrix. The sharp, lustrous, crystal is a mottled dark brown with a translucent orangy-red area on the back. The striking crystal is complete all-around.
