Andradite Garnet (large crystals for the locality)

Arizona is typically thought of as having excellent secondary ore minerals, and I'll bet that most people don't think about Garnet when it comes to minerals of the Grand Canyon State. The Andradite Garnets from Stanley Butte are some of the most easily recognizable examples of any Garnet species from anywhere in the United States, or the world for that matter. Their characteristic and alluring brownish-green to olive-green color and semi metallic luster are a dead giveaway for the locality. This piece is a very impressive miniature sized specimen as it hosts some of the largest individual crystals I've seen from the locality. A handful of fine, sharp, well-formed, dark greenish-brown dodecahedra of Andradite can be seen, which measure up to 2.8 cm across, on minor matrix. There are a few contacts, so the piece is not without damage, but to find crystals are than OVER 1 inch across is a big deal for this locale, and for Garnet in general.
