Item Description

Dalnegorsk is a notably prolific mineral specimen-producing area, which for many decades has yielded a large number of excellent crystallized pieces. Garnet is fairly uncommon from this area, and most of the Andradites I've seen from Dalnegorsk have a green or golden (brown) hue, but this fine quality thumbnail has more of a reddish overtone, which is rare in my experience. The piece features several fine quality, very sharp, highly lustrous, well-formed trapezohedral crystals measuring up to 1.3 cm with good internal gemminess/translucency when backlit. The front facing portion of the piece is in good shape, though there are contacts/separation marks on the back where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. A very attractive and hard to find example of this uncommon material from this world-famous locale.
