Item Description

A wonderful small cabinet sized specimen featuring a pair of large, fine quality, sharp, lustrous, deep reddish-brown colored Grossular crystals measuring up to 3.7 cm across. The crystals feature a textbook dodecahedral habit. This is a very good specimen for the locality, with good form, aesthetics and crystal size. No major damage on the front / display side of the piece, but it's contacted on the back where it was removed from the pocket wall. These Andradites seemingly have dried up in recent years, and are now fairly hard to find on the market. From the worldwide collection of Tom Campbell. Tom is a mineralogist and mineral collect who works with us here at The Arkenstone. He has over 35 years of experience in the fields of exploration geology, mining, and applied mineralogy, and has even more years under his belt as a collector! Tom has described many new species over the years, and discovered the rare phosphates Tiptopite, Fransoletite and Pahasapaite. Tom was also a co-author on the second edition of the Encyclopedia of Minerals. You can see a list of Tom's published works here ( https://www.irocks.com/thomas-j-campbell-publications-list ). Priced in the inventory at $1,500.
