Item Description

This is not the typical habit and color that is seen from Stanley Butte as the crystals are typically more of an olive green with a dodecahedral habit. This piece features dark reddish-brown, sharp, lustrous trapezohedral crystals measuring up to 1.3 cm on matrix. Most of the crystals are in excellent condition, and the only real damage of note is around the periphery where it was removed from the pocket wall. If you collect Garnets or minerals of Arizona, this is a fantastic piece to add as the habit and color are rare for the locality in my experience. Valued at $1,250 in the inventory. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1892). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
