Item Description
Rich and showy 360-degree small cabinet of intergrown sharp, lustrous andradite garnets rom the well-known extinct Garnet Hill Mine. Gorgeous, highly lustrous, striated, large dodecahedral beveled by the trapezohedron crystals highlight the piece and have rich reddish-brown to black faces under bright light. The impressive large compound crystal at one end is 5.5 cm across and the large single crystal at the other end is 4.6 cm across. The matrix is solid granular andradite with a bit of green epidote. This former W-Au-Cu-Mo skarn deposit mine was well-known for garnet and epidote crystals (mindat). Specimens were recovered from the 1950s to late 1980s. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum.
