Item Description

The minerals of Arizona are often thought of as secondary ore species, and it's safe to assume that most people don't think often about Garnet when it comes to minerals of the Grand Canyon State. The Andradites from the Stanley Butte area are some of the most easily recognizable examples of any Garnet species from anywhere in the United States, or the world for that matter. Their characteristic and alluring brownish-green to olive-green color and semi metallic luster are a dead giveaway for the locality. There are not many Garnets that come close to resembling these pieces. This specimen host many fine, sharp, well-formed, olive-green dodecahedra of Andradite which measure up to 8 mm across, on matrix. There are a few contacts, so the piece is not without damage, but most crystals are in great shape. A lovely specimen of these well known Garnets from Arizona.
