Item Description

Arizona is the home of colorful secondary ore minerals, and people don't often think about Garnet when it comes to minerals of Arizona. The Andradite Garnets from Stanley Butte are some of the most easily recognizable examples of any Garnet species from anywhere in the United States, or the world for that matter. Their characteristic and alluring brownish-green to olive-green color and semi metallic luster are a dead giveaway for the locality. This is a wonderful and showy display piece of this famous material, featuring a rich coverage of fine, sharp, well-formed, olive-green dodecahedra of Andradite with very little damage on the display side, though there are a few contacts, so it's not 100% pristine. The largest crystal measures 1.2 cm. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
