Item Description
A classic example of the famous Andradite Garnets from Serifos Island in Greece. These iconic skarn deposit specimens are a must have for any Garnet collector or collector of European minerals. This piece is filled with lovely cinnamon-red colored, sharp, well-formed, lustrous, dodecahedral crystals of Andradite measuring up to 8 mm on typical green Hedenbergite matrix. The crystals show a bit of translucency when backlit, which is not common for this material. Very little damage, most of the crystals are pristine. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#12951). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
