Andradite & Calcite (fluorescent) (RARE combo) ex Obodda

A RARE, rich and showy large combination plate from this less well-known Afghanistan locale from the Herb Obodda dealer stock. MINDAT does not list calcite from Spin Ghar, yet the plate is richly covered with clusters of flattened calcite rhombs. The two generations of sharp andradite dodecahedrons really highlight this fine piece. The smaller andradites are very gemmy, lustrous, olive-green. The large crystals, to 2.0 cm, are dark olive-green with lighter, translucent areas. The calcite fluoresces modest pink. The noted periphery wear is certainly only a modest detraction to this fine large combination rarity. Herb valued this piece at $500, over five years ago. The piece has two fine display views.
