Item Description

Andorite is a rare Ag-Pb-Sb sulfosalt with easily the world's finest examples coming from the San Jose and Itos Mines of Peru, that mine the same silver deposit. This superb and sculptural miniature is from the famous 2004 find. It is composed of lustrous, metallic-gray, striated layered plates. It looks like a metallic fan coral. Both andorite and semseyite are named for Andor von Semsey (1833-1923), a Hungarian mineral collector. It is RARE to have two species named for one person! This outstanding piece is considered to be one of the finest examples from the find. Ex Wouter van Tichelen Collection and comes with a photograph of the piece with a writeup of the species, locality and specimen. Valued by the former dealer at $1950.
