Item Description

Andalusite is the result of contact metamorphism of argillaceous sediments, also in regionally metamorphosed schists. It is rare in granites and pegmatites, which however afford the largest crystals. This is a striking and excellent cluster of sharp crystals with very glassy and gemmy terminations. It is from the pegmatites of Itinga and is an outstanding example of the species and locale.
