Item Description

Mineral specimens of any variety from this old district are RARE. This is a very fine and very rare 3-piece set of schist with andalusite variety chiastolite crystals, which is andalusite containng cross-shaped inclusions of carbon. The sawed faces have been polished and sprayed with krylon. These crystals are often sectioned, polished and used as amulets, sometimes chiastolite is cut into cabochons (GEMDAT). Such pieces from Lancaster in Worcester County are much more common and well-known. Undoubtably old material, probably over 100 years old, but no proof. Ex Neal Yedlin Collection, very well-known mineral collector and author, who died in 1977.
